Nestled between Switzerland and Austria, Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, is a charming alpine destination with a blend of modern culture and medieval history. Overlooked by the stunning Vaduz Castle, the official residence of the reigning prince, this small yet vibrant city offers breathtaking views of the Rhine Valley and surrounding mountains. Although the castle itself isn’t open to the public, its presence atop the hill creates an enchanting backdrop for those strolling through the city below, offering an iconic photo opportunity.

Art and culture thrive in Vaduz, especially at the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, a sleek and modern museum that houses an impressive collection of contemporary art. Nearby, the Liechtenstein National Museum delves into the rich history and heritage of this tiny principality, from its ancient roots to modern-day significance. For a more whimsical experience, stop by the Postage Stamp Museum, where you’ll discover Liechtenstein’s legacy as a renowned producer of stamps—a surprising yet significant source of pride for the nation.

Vaduz's pedestrian-friendly streets make it easy to explore the city's offerings, from charming boutiques to cozy cafes. A walk along the Städtle, the main street, offers a leisurely chance to soak in the local atmosphere and enjoy picturesque views of the surrounding Alps. For those seeking outdoor adventure, the city serves as a gateway to some of Europe’s best hiking trails, including scenic paths up to the Malbun ski area.

Fun fact: Despite its small size, Vaduz is home to one of the world's few remaining monarchies, and Liechtenstein has the distinction of being the only country to be entirely situated within the Alps. Whether you're a history buff, art lover, or nature enthusiast, Vaduz promises a captivating blend of experiences that make it a must-visit destination.

Vaduz Castle
Vaduz Castle is the landmark residence of the Princely Family of Liechtenstein, standing high above the capital on a rocky terrace overlooking the Rhine Valley. The castle combines medieval defensive structures with later residential additions and is connected to the history of the principality’s ruling family. Although the interior is not generally open to visitors because it remains a private residence, the castle can be viewed from the surrounding paths and streets of Vaduz. Its elevated position provides broad views across the town, Rhine Valley, and mountains along the Liechtenstein-Swiss border.
